Twenty-two Spring Valley children will get an extra surprise this
Christmas. That’s the number of bicycles donated this week by Hall
High School’s science and “power mechanics” clubs. Auto mechanics
teacher Joe Panzica coordinated the effort. Students assembled the
bicycles during Panzica’s class and after school. Students
delivered the bicycles to St. Anthony’s Church, Spring Valley,
where Marie Emmerling coordinates the annual Giving Tree.
Emmerling said the bicycles will be distributed Dec. 20 along with
other gifts the church has collected for Spring Valley children.
The church obtains a list of families in need from Hall Township
and the schools. At least 114 families will benefit from the gift
drive.
Emmerling described the clubs’ donation as “wonderful.” “We’re very
grateful to them for doing this because this has helped us so
much,” she said. “We have a lot of kids,” Emmerling said. “We have
so many this year that we were not able to get enough names on the
tree.”
Now she will be able to add more names to the tree for parishioners
to support. In addition to the donation from Hall students,
Emmerling said Wal-Mart and Dollar General have been big
supporters.
